TOP FIVE TIPS FOR WINTER RIDING
DON'T LET A DROP IN TEMPERATURE STOP YOU!
The MATE X and MATE City were both developed to handle different terrains under varying weather conditions. Below are our five top tips to give you extra peace of mind and a greater sense of security on wet, icy or snowy roads.
1. RIDE, CLEAN, MAINTAIN
In order to keep your MATE running smoothly year-round, we suggest investing in the MATE Cleaning Set. The set includes three MATE products that have been designed to maintain your MATE components and deliver that “new bike” feeling before every new adventure.
2. EXTRA GRIP
While the signature tires of the MATE X are reassuringly fat and robust, we recommend letting a little air out of the tires to increase their grip further if you are still feeling unsure on particularly icy or snowy roads.
We do, however, recommend that you do this only as a precaution in particularly hazardous conditions. Leaving the tires under-pumped for any length of time will increase wear and leave you more susceptible to punctures.
3. AVOID SPLASHBACK
When cycling out in the elements, the addition of front and rear fenders can help to protect both you and your MATE from any excess rainfall, grit or dirt that can be churned up as you ride. As we move through the colder months, the addition of fenders can be the difference between arriving looking fresh or splattered with the tell-tale signs of a muddy journey.
4. AS THE NIGHTS DRAW IN
As the days draw shorter, make sure you are prepared for the extended darker hours with bike lights to illuminate the road and ensure you are visible to other road users.
The MATE X Front and Rear Light Set are powered by the MATE battery and can be easily operated via the controllers on your handlebars. The dual-beam front light has a built-in horn and the rear light features a brake light and indicator blinkers.
5. COOL HEAD GEAR
With the elements adding more variables to a winter rife, it is important for you and your loved ones that you remain as safe as possible on each adventure. This necessitates that you wear a bike helmet. If you have had any qualms or gripes about what a bike helmet may do to your carefully-crafted aesthetic in the past - fear not. The Hövding 3.0 is the world’s safest bike helmet. And the great thing is that it isn’t actually a bike helmet at all. Designed to be worn as a collar, the airbag inflates and protects your head in the event of an accident.
