MATE GO+ Earns Japan’s Safety Certification and Wins the 2025 Good Design Award
Since its successful launch in Japan this May, and with the European release by the end of the year, the MATE GO+ has just been awarded Japan’s safety certification and prestigious 2025 Good Design Award, marking significant milestones in its recognition for safety, quality, and practical design.
Built for the demands of family life, the MATE GO+ features a reinforced extended rear rack for a child seat, a lightweight frame, and a low center of gravity, delivering safe, stable, and comfortable rides for both rider and passenger. From routine daycare drop-offs to weekend leisure trips, it delivers reliability, stability, and comfort for both rider and passenger, while maintaining MATE’s signature sleek aesthetic.
Certified for Safety
The MATE GO+ has officially passed Japan’s type certification for electrically assisted bicycles, a national standard administered by the National Public Safety Commission (Police Agency).
Obtaining this certification ensures that MATE GO+ meets the highest national safety and reliability standards, making it fully approved for use on Japanese roads including when equipped with a child seat.
This achievement underscores MATE’s commitment to designing safe, high-quality e-bikes that meet the rigorous standards of each country where they are sold.
Honored with the 2025 Good Design Award
In addition to its official safety approval, the MATE GO+ has been recognized for its practical and minimal design and sustainable alternative by winning the 2025 Good Design Award, hosted by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
The award celebrates the MATE GO+ for its distinctive fusion of form and function balancing everyday practicality while standing out as one of the most sustainable mobility alternatives to cars in today’s congested urban environments.
The Good Design Award Jury stated:
“The MATE GO+ embodies a refined balance of lightness and strength, qualities that define the essence of contemporary urban mobility. Its frame, composed of elegant straight lines and gentle curves, showcases a minimalist precision that feels both deliberate and effortless. The extended wheelbase and low frame line convey a visual sense of stability, while the overall silhouette evokes the perfect balance between practicality and elegance.”
The jury further praised MATE GO+ for combining safety, stability, and sustainability with a streamlined, gender-neutral design.
Andrew Longley, Head of Product of MATE says:
“With MATE GO+, we wanted to create a bike that makes everyday mobility effortless, safe, and stylish — whether people are riding solo or with their family. Achieving type approval and receiving the Good Design Award are milestones that reflect our commitment to innovation, quality, and the joy of movement that defines MATE.”
At MATE, safety means freedom — the freedom to move, explore, and live everyday life with confidence. The MATE GO+ is built to empower families and urban riders alike, proving that safety, sustainability, and style can move together in perfect balance.
